Successful Delegation

I learned that delegating really means to Empower, Enable, Engage and Enhance others.  Once I learned that....I was all in.  I truly enjoy impacting lives and that was one way to do it.

Most times the challenge is not delegating...The challenge is knowing what to delegate and to whom.

Here are some points:

A: You should be USING YOUR TIME to do the tasks ONLY you can do.  For example;

If you are not the tech type, then assign the social media task to someone else and choose the best person for this task.

Remember to write down your questions...

B: CHOOSING THE BEST PERSON FOR THE TASK....

1. Listen and Observe the person (s) whom you are considering for your team.

2. Learn their characteristics and personalities. Then and only then...

3. Assign the work to those who will deliver and have the right skill sets.

C: TRUST

It always begins with TRUST...However allow for creativity and the persons skill set to evolve.

Yes share your expectations and instructions, but allow them room to do the job their way.  It should never be "My way or the highway".  YOU CANNOT EMPOWER THAT WAY.

MY STORY, LOL!!  for my recent Vision Board Gala, my husband helped so much.  He took the task of making the refreshments and food.  When I realized how he cut the sandwiches, i almost freaked out!! (Control Freak came out), But I took a breather, stepped back and left it alone.  The sandwiches were great, (smile).

D. BE CLEAR

Have the right balance. That balance weighs between 
1. explaining too much where the listener is insulted, 
2. not enough information where the listener does not grasp your expectations. 

I have been in both scenarios.

E: SET YOUR COMPLETION DEADLINES AND FOLLOWUP

Establish deadlines with milestones. Yes train your team to always report back to you on how the task is moving along.
